On January 22, 2011, at the Neza Arena, in the State of Mexico, Álvaro Pérez was imposed by medical technical decision and won the interim WBA bantamweight title. On January 27, 2016, at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California, he defeated Julio Ceja by knockout in one round and snatched the WBC Super Bantamweight title from him.

Lost His Title
The interim WBA bantamweight lost it in his fifth defense against Japan's Koki Kameda, on April 4, 2012, at the Bodymaker Colosseum in Osaka, Japan. On September 16, 2016, in Osaka, he lost the WBC super bantamweight title by losing a unanimous decision to Hozumi Hasegawa.
