Won The World Title
On March 11, 2006, in Hamburg, he defeated Maselino Masoe by unanimous decision and became the WBA middleweight champion. He regained his title on April 28, 2007, by defeating Spanish Javier Castillejo by unanimous decision, in Germany. After seven defenses he gave up the title to challenge Giovanni Lorenzo for the WBA super middleweight belt, on September 4, 2010, in Cologne, Germany and won by unanimous decision. He won the IBF super middleweight title on December 7, 2013, in Stuttgart, defeating Darren Barker by decision. On February 20, 2016, in Germany, he defeated Fedor Chudinov and took over the WBA super middleweight belt.

Lost His Title
In his first defense against Spaniard Javier Castillejo, he defeated him by technical knockout and snatched the WBA middle belt from him. In his second stage as middleweight champion, he made seven defenses and resigned, because he disputed the WBA super middleweight title. In his fifth defense, on September 1, 2012, he unified with Daniel Geale, IBF monarch, and lost on points. He lost the IBF super middleweight title in his first defense by losing a unanimous decision to Sam Soliman on May 31, 2014, in Germany.
