Won The World Title
On November 7, 1970, in Rome, Italy, he won the Italian Nino Benvenuti by technical knockout in 12 rounds and snatched the middleweight titles recognized by the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association.
Lost His Title
He did not lose it, he retired as champion with 14 defenses
On June 30, 1977, he won a unanimous decision against Rodrigo Váldez, in Monte Carlo, and retained his world title.
According to a biography of the boxer, at the height of his career, Monzón joined the actress Susana Jiménez and in 1974 they filmed the movie"La Mary"together and began dating. She did not like boxing and that is why she asked him to retire; then he separated from Susana. Some indicate that alcohol and bad company were part of his life. Carlos later married Alicia Muñiz and they had Maximiliano Roque. The misfortune was experienced on February 14, 1988, in Mar del Plata. After an argument, Alicia was killed and Monzón was convicted, tried and imprisoned for simple murder with a sentence of 11 years. When he was in the last part of his sentence, and already enjoyed restricted freedom that allowed him to leave the prison, he died in a car accident on Sunday, January 8, 1995, in Los Cerrillos, forty kilometers from Santa Fe.
