On October 12, 2013, he won the WBO super featherweight belt by knocking out Orlando “Fenómeno” Cruz in seven rounds, in Las Vegas.

Lost His Title
The IBF title was lost in his second defense on September 11, 2010 in Las Vegas, against Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa, with whom he tried to unify the WBA featherweight belt. The WBO featherweight lost it in his third defense against Mikey Garcia, on January 19, 2013, in New York, falling by technical decision in eight rounds. The WBO super featherweight lost it in his third defense against Román Martínez, Román Martinez on April 11, 2015, in San Juan Puerto Rico, losing by unanimous decision.
